Therapy Fees and Insurance

Accessible care that honors your healing journey

Investing in therapy is an important decision—for your health, your relationships, and your future. At Guerin Therapy Group, we believe mental health care should be transparent and accessible.

Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about our fees, insurance options, and payment policies.

Session Fees

Individual Counseling
– First session (intake): $190
– 53-minute follow-up sessions: $160

Couples, Relationships, and Families
– First session (intake): $225
– 53-minute follow-up sessions: $180

We accept payment by credit/debit card, HSA, and FSA accounts.

Insurance

We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Home with UNC Health Alliance, Cigna, and Aetna plans. If we’re not in your network, we can provide a superbill so you can submit claims for out-of-network benefits.

Please note: we are NOT in-network with: Blue Value POS, Blue Local with Atrium Health, all other POS, Medicare Advantage, all other EPO, all other HMO, or Blue Local with Wake Forest Baptist Health.

To get a clear picture of what your insurance covers, we recommend verifying your benefits before your first session. Here’s how:

  • Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card.
  • Say: “I’d like to request information about my in-network, outpatient mental health benefits.”
  • Ask if coverage differs for in-office vs. telehealth counseling.
  • Ask about your deductible and how it impacts what you owe.
  • If they need CPT codes, provide these:
    • Intake session: 90791
    • 53-minute session: 90837

Cancellations

Our scheduling system will send reminders 24 and 48 hours before your session. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours in advance.

Late cancellations or no-shows are subject to a $75 fee (not covered by insurance).

If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, the session will need to be rescheduled and the late cancellation fee will apply.

Clients who miss 3 appointments in a 3-month period will need to discuss continuation of care and possible referrals.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Equity & Accessibility

Our practice is built on the values of inclusivity, justice, and affirming care. We recognize that financial barriers can limit access to therapy. We reserve reduced-fee slots to increase accessibility. Please reach out if cost is a concern—we’re committed to helping you find the support you need, whether with us or through trusted referrals.

Our office spaces at 219 S. East St. are wheelchair accessible, and we also offer online therapy throughout North Carolina to increase access for clients who can’t come in person.
