Are you looking to start a fitness or wellness business that is rooted in inclusive and social justice? Or, do you already own one and are looking for more support?
You’ve come to the right place. I offer business coaching for folks like you, because I've been in your shoes. After running a successful business for 4 years, I decided to begin offering coaching to support HAES-aligned business owners thrive.
Hi, my name is Brit Guerin (she/they). I started my career in the fitness industry in 2007. I taught a wide variety of fitness classes, and then progressed into educating fitness professionals. I received a degree in Kinesiology and then went on the get a Master’s in Campus Recreation Leadership to get more training in programming, operations, leadership, and marketing.
From the beginning of my fitness career, I felt like something wasn’t quite right in fitness spaces.
First starters, everyone looked the same. There was mostly White appearing, thin, cisgender, and able-bodied individuals. Some of this could have been because of the identities that I hold. However, the more classes that I taught and attended, the lack of diversity was apparent. Wellness spaces felt exclusionary.
Secondly, I noticed a lot of frustration and individuals being hard of themselves. A lot of times, these were larger-bodied individuals trying to lose weight. They would share that they were “doing everything right but couldn’t seem to get the weight off.” Or, that they “plateaued.” These individuals would blame themselves. Something inside of me was telling me that it wasn’t actually their fault. And, that self-blame is counter to wellness.
Enter my introduction to the Health at Every Size(TM) paradigm.
This gave me language and research to what I was feeling. Body diversity is real, and not everyone is designed to be thin. It was confirmed, that folks who couldn’t lose weight weren’t doing anything wrong. In fact, the pursuit of weight loss is impossible/not sustainable for a lot of individuals.
And, a whole industry pushing weight loss for “health” is actually harming us.
Alongside my introduction to Health at Every Size(TM), I was pursing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I started a private practice and wellness center in downtown Raleigh, NC called Current Wellness. I started Current Wellness because I saw a need for a different approach to wellness. I saw a need for folks in larger bodies to be able to move their body without judgment or shame. I saw a need for us to move our bodies for joy instead of punishment. I saw a need for a more sustainable and realistic approach to wellness that was rooted in social justice and self compassion.
Current Wellness not only helps individuals heal their relationship with their body, we also support eating disorder prevention, which is a fatal illness.
Size inclusive practices save lives.

A note on privilege. I have White, cisgender, and straight-sized privilege. Because of my privileged identities, my business coaching will include encouraging resources of marginalized identities. This may include becoming a patreon of Decolonizing Fitness, signing up for the Size Inclusive Fitness Specialist Certification by Louise Green, supporting the BIPOC Eating Disorders Conference, among many other resources.
One identity who I serve well is other White business owners with various privileges. If you feel as though you are personally struggling as a business owner, I can hold space for you. It's important that we are cared for, so that those with privilege can show up well for our friends in marginalized identities and bodies.
